Fashion...is it art or commerce or both?

Fashion is more than just fabric on a body. It is design + function + beauty + feel/fabric. It's about "the look" and how it makes you feel inside and out. It's about a personal statement of your identity...whether for that day or a life-time.

Fashion is the one art that is both HIGH and LOW. Within reach of all...and rare and rarefied.

We watch images bombarding us daily in magazines, billboards, tv, online...everywhere an image can be displayed.

YET...fashion has the means to transport or transform both the wearer and the viewer. It has a potentcy that no other art form shares. It's immediacy is part of it's compelling nature. Trends come and go and the remnants are those items adorning our closet. Yet there is even within this fast moving world, classics that last a lifetime or can be handed down like heirlooms.

Fashion is art is life is beauty is fun is silly is wonderful...is you...is me!

Let the sun shine in...

After a long, dark, cold, snowy winter...nothing lifts up my spirits like the sun. Warm sensual delicious sun light. Soothing like a hot oil massage. The feel of sun on my face. The sound of birds chirping. The warm breeze. Buds on trees. HOPE.

Coffee...cafe...kahveh!

Nothing like a fresh, hot, steaming java in the morning to start the day. The smell alone can wake the senses. It's fabulous chemical composition can ignite the body and spirit. Derided and loved in equal portions, the cup of coffee is ubiquitous and omnipresent. Our post-industrial "information age" has been fueled by it for the last 10-20 years. Starbucks and Tim Hortons and their thousand brethren stores (along with their artisan independent cafes) are on every corner of every street in every place in the world. Coffee and humanity go hand-in-hand. And it certainly puts a smile on my face even on the darkest, coldest winter day.

The human body in all its simplicity and complexity is both a marvel and a joy to behold. To hold. To have. To comfort. To care for. To adore. To admire. To explore. TO BE.

To be human is both art and adventure. Each person creates a tapestry; a textual landscape; a narrative of who they were and are and hope to be.

LADY GAGA

LADY GAGA is obviously a world-wide association. And despite her growing mega popularity, I find her continuing to improve as both an artist and an adventurer. In short, she makes me smile with her wacky cross-over of pop-music/fashion/art/gay porn/outrageousness. If we had more crazy artists pushing the pop envelope like she does...this would be a whole other world.

Cheers to Lady Gaga...may she and her subversive sense of humour/fashion reign supreme for many years to come.
